The Brass Rooster is an award winning hat shop and custom maker of traditional mens dress hats. We carry custom made & most major hat lines. We carry hats from many makers at every price point. Opened in Milwaukee Wisconsin, in the BayView neighborhood, in 2011. Owners, Kate & John McLaughlin are two of few Master Dress Hat Makers left in the country preserving the craft and artistry of not only hat making & repair, but in a return to speciality shops with a focus on customer service and knowledge of product. One year after opening their doors they were offered a collection of Hat making tools and equipment from their business mentor, Henry The Hatter, in Detroit Michigan. Clarence, the Master Hatter at their location was retiring after 65 years in our craft. The equipment he used was also used by the hatter who taught him. Some of our equipment dates back to the 1893 when Henry the Hatter first opened. The majority of our collection is over 100 years old and has been in constant use for its original purpose of making and refurbishing mens hats. Three years after opening, The Brass Rooster moved from its original location, 4 blocks south, to its current home, 2252 S. Kinnickinnic Ave Milwaukee WI, 53207. This is when they were able to expand into a larger storefront and add their Womens shop, The Hen House, in the space next door. Constantly working at adding rare equipment to the collection as well as servicing the amazing clientelle at the shops there is always time for a quick tour to talk about our craft. The Brass Rooster is as much working museum as it is a hat shop. John & Kate and the entire staff at The Brass Rooster & The Hen House are always willing to talk about the history of their shop and the history of hat making. Servicing customers locally, Nationally and internationally, The Brass Rooster has become a must see location if you are in the city; From the patrons in the city to celebrity clientelle, everyone gets treated the same. The Brass Rooster prides itself on service and looks forward to showing you why.
